Halcyon (PRINT)

Can you feel the heat of summer when you look at this painting?
Halcyon embodies the long, languid summer days I spent floating the McKenzie River
over the course of more than a decade. Those sweltering August afternoons when the
air hung heavy and still, and blankets of blackberries grew thick along the riverbanks,
their sweet fragrance rising in the heat.

The contrast was intoxicating: the warmth of the sun and the cool, clear river; hillsides
mottled with summer yellow and green; and towering trees dappled with golden light.
Heat and water, brightness and shade, stillness and movement all came together to
create the perfect alchemy of an Oregon summer. Halcyon is a celebration of those idyllic days when the river seemed to slow time and
summer felt almost endless.
