Collection: Don Wilson

I am a 6th generation Oregonian and grew up in Leaburg and the

McKenzie River Valley. I was a career employee of the Eugene Water and

Electric Board. I am now happily retired in Sisters where I enjoy life with

my lovely wife, Cheri and visits from our four grown children and four

grandchildren. My pursuits now, besides watercolor include hiking, fly

fishing, kayaking, biking and bird watching.

I love watercolor as a medium. It is so portable that I can carry a travel

kit with paint, brushes, pallet, paper and water in my pocket. I’m really just

chronicling my life through my journal and paintings. Sometimes people

see my work and want to take it home with them.

I try to capture images that are meaningful to me, with a memory of

place or an iconic object. O’Neil Butte, Lower Yellowstone Falls, Half Dome,

Double Arch, and Aspens in Black Butte meadows have all been painted

from my own photos or “en plain air.”

Watercolor is a spiritual experience sometimes, it’s where I encounter

God’s presence in my life. There is great joy when transparent color mixes

itself in washes, or granulates to an inspiring effect. It’s a great surprise to

me when someone says, “Oh, you painted a place from my childhood”, or

“I know that flower, it’s my favorite!” Maybe you will find something too in

the washes, and glazes of this magical medium.
