"My work involves the use of simplified shapes and bright harmonious colors to depict figurative imagery. The images convey
my optimistic personal vision of human relationships and the world around me. It is important to me to create images that convey positive
feelings and beauty to help the viewer connect with the grace and harmony that can be found in life.
Color is used to heighten the quality of emotion which is an integral part of my work. Shape, line, and markmaking are also vital
to my ideas and images as they create a sense of energy, a life in the pieces, that can only be achieved when the visual elements
and imagery work together. My purpose is to reveal the world of excitement and wonder available all around us. The energies
of our interactions are magical, mysterious, intimate. Encounters with nature and animals, as well as human interactions, are full
of possibilities, suggestions of images. Travel to lush and tropical places has inspired my work during the last several years. The
marketplaces of Grenada, the Venezuelan jungle, the fish filled waters of the Caribbean, the sensuality and rawness of nature in Hawaii
and the people of those places have touched my soul. It is there my spirit belongs, to there I travel to absorb warmth, color, rhythms
and images. At home I draw on music and dance from Africa and Brazil for the connection with the earth and the vibrant energy that
is so much a part of my work. At the root of each piece is an occurrence and a spark. The occurrence can be a place, person,
event, idea or dream. The spark is how that occurrence ignites with my imagination. The result is the visual imagery that expresses
the rich experience of life.
